Welcome to Pickens County, Home of the Georgia Marble Festival. Pickens County is one of the few places in the world where rare pink marble is found. You can visit the Tate House, pink marble Renaissance style mansion, one of eight county sites listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This beautiful marble was used in many famous buildings including the National Gallery of Art, the Lincoln Monument, Chicago's Buckingham Fountain and more.
Nestled next to the southernmost point of the famous Appalachian Trail, the foothills of the mountains, Pickens County is geographically positioned between the hustle and bustle of Downtown Atlanta and the peace and tranquility of the Applachian Mountains. Despite its proximity to both Atlanta and Chattanooga, Pickens County provides a unique escape for those who wish to enjoy a balance between convenience and community. Many retired couples are making Pickens County their retirement home.
Pickens is considered a leader in providing its citizens with controlled growth of industry while also maintaining a sense of residential privacy. It offers an excellent opportunity for business expansion or new business locations. Contact the Economic Development Director for the Chamber of Commerce for information on the "Opportunity Zone" where existing or new industries can take advantage of tax credits and other business incentives.
